Something funny always happens in my mending and upcycling workshops. I arrive with a plan and everyone brings completely different damaged garments! Instead of following one direction, the workshop naturally turns into a hands-on exploration of textile reuse and creative repair. Every piece has its own story and its own needs, so I shift my approach and work with each participant individually. It’s more effort, but also far more rewarding. Participants don’t just learn one technique-they experience a range of visible mending, stitching, patching and fiber art methods. By seeing each other’s work, they gain new ideas and confidence to repair own garments.
This process is helping me design more flexible fiber art and up cycling workshops. No two classes are ever the same and that’s exactly what makes them so inspiring. Our creativity and sustainability go hand in hand.
