Join us for a free up-cycling workshop on mending, patching and stitching of damaged garments at the South Huntington Library on April 23 from 1–3 PM.
Got a favorite piece of clothing that’s seen better days? Bring it along. We’ll help you give it a second life—no magic wand required, just a needle, pins, scissors, thread and a little creativity.
Here’s what to bring:
- Clothes with holes? Bring sharp needles, pins, scissors, fabric scraps and thread for patching.
- Moth-eaten sweaters? Pack matching or contrasting thread and a tapestry needle for chunky knits and fine sharp needle for fine gauge sweater.
- Feeling creative? Turn an old sweater into a hat—bring scissors, pins, a marker, sharp needle and contrast thread.
From past workshops, I’ve learned one thing: everyone brings something different—and that’s actually the best part. Sticking to just one technique doesn’t work, because every garment tells its own story (some louder than others… looking at you, moth holes).
So bring whatever you want to revive. You’ll work on your own piece while learning from others around you. Watch, share ideas and pick up new up-cycling skills as you go.
It’s hands-on, practical and a lot more fun than throwing things away.
Give your clothes a second chance—and maybe learn a few new tricks along the way. We are welcome everybody who wants to participate in the workshop even those from different libraries.
