Pockets in Knitwear: A Studio Invitation to Experience Whimsy and Utility in Hand-Knitted Design
Over the past year, I have been developing hand knitted collection Pockets in Knitwear, a fellowship project exploring the intersection of utility and whimsy in contemporary knitwear. This small, hand-knitted collection reimagines pockets not just as functional elements, but as playful details that spark curiosity, evoke surprise, and invite personal connection.
Featuring handmade sweaters, vests, hats and scarves, each piece celebrates the pocket as a site of storytelling. By embedding unexpected elements and charming surprises, I encourage the wearer to engage with the garment in a new and memorable way. Every pocket becomes a small moment of discovery—offering humor, intimacy and delight.
In this collection, I combined traditional knitting techniques with modern design to create works that feel both familiar and quietly poetic. The result is a body of work that balances craft and creativity, honoring the timeless warmth of hand knitting while pushing its expressive potential.
I am excited to invite the Huntington Arts Council to experience Pockets in Knitwear in person in my studio. Seeing these pieces firsthand allows for a deeper appreciation of their details.
In addition to their cozy and stylish design, my knitted accessories are crafted with practical functionality in mind. There are discreet, integrated pockets designed to securely hold modern gadgets like an iPad, iPhone or AirPods, making them perfect for anyone who likes to keep their essentials close at hand. These hidden compartments blend seamlessly into the design and easy access to your devices. Whether you’re commuting, traveling or simply enjoying a walk, you can carry your favorite tech safely and comfortably while still showing off your unique, handmade style.
