Long Island Museum, textile and costume collection

Exploring the Long Island Museum’s Fashion Collection

Yesterday, I had the privilege of visiting the incredible fashion and textile collection at the Long Island Museum. For hours, I immersed myself in intricate details, textures, and stories of garments from various eras.

This visit of The Long Island Museum is part of my research for a project, “Pockets in Knitwear and Accessories.” The project is generously supported by the Long Island Grants for the Arts. Funds are provided by the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. It is administered by the Huntington Arts Council. I’m deeply grateful for this support, enabling me to conduct specialized research and share insights.

The museum’s collection is a treasure trove of fashion history. I focused on intricate craftsmanship, fabric details, and the unique forms that define garments. The visit was a source of inspiration, fueling ideas for my project.

I’m especially thankful to The Long Island Museum for preserving this remarkable collection. Stay tuned for photos and sketches as I document my research journey. Some details of the research are posted on my Face Book page.
